Turkey In the Pot

turkey by Heather Johnston at thecasualgourmet.com

The turkey carcass in the pot,
its bubbling bouquet,
will stretch our turkey bounty out
to last another day.
Once gobbling in the garden plot,
so happily at play,
he'll soon be Turkey Lo Chow Mein,
with a glass of Chardonnay!

Decidedly silly, but it is all I can muster. Kerry's Real Toads Mini Sunday Challenge this week is to write a poem based on the rather intricate stanza style of Robert Herrick. Two examples are given, the first more complicated. I slid in under the radar using the easier second example.

  1. Ha ha, Sherry. Plan-overs are always good....especially when accompanied by Chardonnay.

  2. LOL! Love it! That is one of the great Xmas challenges - what to do, what else to do, with the leftovers!

  8. How lovely, Sherry. You have the beat down really well in these lines, and what a good idea for the last of the turkey! To think I gave the dogs the broth...

  12. Your tone and practical pitch are perfect for this, I think, Sherry! I enjoyed this especially...to bring a lightness where I was feeling heavy on the topic I chose. Thank you!

  13. Sometimes silly can be the best and most perfect response. Something else we share in common,

  15. Sounds delicious, Sherry. Having had no turkey, we have no leftovers except one yam. I'll make you a deal, you keep the Chardonnay and send me the turkey lo mein. If we go out tonight, it will probably be for Chinese food, then home to watch a movie on TV, and in bed by 11:00. We're too old to see the new year in.
Happy happy happy to you and yours, however.
    Luv, K

  17. haha you always offer a wonderfully light take on things, and a carefree poeticity (not a word admittedly but it works here) that reads so well. Your beat is spot on here and the whole poem moves to a great rhythm! And thank you for your words over on my blog - happy new year!! :)

  19. This is the time of year that I feel sad to be a vegetarian. At least your turkey made me laugh.
Have a happy year, Sherry, full of calm or exciting goodness.
